　　從八○年代至今仍然活躍於流行歌壇的瑪丹娜，1958年8月16日出生於美國密西根州，其從小就顯露出明星的特質，經常在學校的活動中表演，曾是學校的啦啦隊隊員，並擅於舞蹈和各種樂器。高中畢業後，瑪丹娜得到密西根大學的舞蹈獎學金進入該校就讀，但兩年後輟學結束學生生涯。1977年時她隻身到紐約尋求發展，期間曾加入過幾個小樂團，後於1979年組織「早餐俱樂部」樂團，初在樂團中任鼓手，不久便取得主唱位置。

　　1982年瑪丹娜向紐約當地的一位DJ兼製作人毛遂自薦，並寄去自己錄製的錄音帶獲得製作人青睞，為她製作第一首單曲「Everybody」，該曲並迅速在美國的舞廳和俱樂部竄紅。不到一年，瑪丹娜又發行幾首頗受歡迎的單曲，並於1983年出版個人首張專輯「Madonna」。1985的首屆MTV頒獎典禮上，瑪丹娜以性感造型演唱「Like A Virgin」一曲成名，並於當年舉行為期80天名為「Virgin Tour」的全美十州演唱會而打開知名度。

　　1987年瑪丹娜走向國際舞台，首次舉辦跨越美、歐、亞三洲的世界巡迴演唱會，之後每隔三年－－1990及1993年曾各舉辦過兩次，皆受到廣大歌迷的歡迎。在睽違了八年後，瑪丹娜於2001年6月5日於德國科隆(Cologne)再度舉行世界巡迴演唱會，從歐洲到全美場場爆滿，除刷新售票紀錄外，在巡迴於洛杉磯時，正好碰上911事件，但其仍堅持唱完最後三場，並將個人收入捐出。同年10月，瑪丹娜發行的單曲「Ray Of Light」 成為微軟廣告曲，該年發行的首張精選集「The Immaculate Collection」在全美銷售量也突破千萬，足見其受歡迎程度。

　　被譽為流行歌壇天后的瑪丹娜，演唱生涯中曾獲得多種獎項，包括：1994年在《Spin》雜誌「1985~1995最重要十大藝人」排行榜中名列第二、1995年獲全球五十大受歡迎女星排行榜首及美國《告示牌》(Billboard)的終身成就獎、1997年名列《美國娛樂週報》的百大最重要人物、1999年獲英國《Q雜誌》票選「二十世紀最偉大藝人」排行榜冠軍、2000年獲美國《時人》雜誌十大魅力女星之一，2001更奪下全英音樂獎「最佳國際女歌手」殊榮。

　　瑪丹娜曾有二次婚姻，第一次與名演員西恩潘的婚姻維持近4年，後與現任丈夫英國導演蓋瑞奇(Guy Richie)於蘇格蘭結婚；身為兩個孩子母親的她，近年來利用閒暇之餘共出版五本童書，每本的銷售量都突破記錄，也為其帶來可觀的收入；據《富比士》雜誌日前公佈「2005年全球最有影響力名人」排行榜中，瑪丹娜以過去12個月的收入達五千萬美元，躋身為收入最高的歌手。
